This year's JazzFest shirt is called Pianos At Sea.
On the March mix another two Booker tribute songs. Guy Davis played here recently; Jen Kearney will play here next Saturday.
Jeffrey Foucault recently came out with an almost unrecognizable cover of John Prine's Mexican Home, which made me include the real one.
Lots of good new stuff around. Albums get published on Tuesdays; I'm always waiting for the last Tuesday of the month before making a mix. For example, on Tuesday March 31, a new Steve Forbert album comes out and I need the blackbird song from it for my next mix. I know, I know, but it's yucky outside in mud season and a girl has to amuse herself. I put the mix on CDs because it's the best way to keep a low profile on what is an illegal activity.
When I walked into the theater Saturday, Kinobe was doing sound check and it was the first time I got to hear a kora played live. The kora is the big gourd thing in the front; it sounds like a lute or a balalaika; classical almost, not like a sound that comes out of a gourd and a stick. He also was an amazing kalimba player, and good with the talking drum.
