I don't know why they are grinning. We were all just about to get struck by lightning and die. In all our years of paddling on this lake, this was the first time we had to go ashore and flip the canoe over us. We're having weird weather with lots of thunderstorms. I've been fascinated by the animated radar screens I can get on my phone, but I know now that those screens are not useful in certain conditions.
They are useful for telling you exactly where the approaching snow storm or other frontal thing is. But they can't tell you what will happen in more dynamic conditions. From my crouch by the canoe I checked the radar and saw that a hundred angry storm cells had sprung up around us in the last 15 minutes and there would be no navigating around them. They're not there until they're there!
In the July Mix a Marie Laveaux trilogy, two new women blues players, and a Portland band (Gypsy Tailwind) that probably uses the same string section as Rustic Overtones. |
