| Happy New Year, World. We had our usual New Year's Day brunch/open house thingy. On the table you can see Melissa's Chocolate Rhapsody dessert and my humble sweet potato pie which my sisters will look at and know that I am still bastardizing the family recipe. It should be darker, should have more sugar and cook down longer. Still it was so satisfying with a cup of chickory coffee on the mornings after the holiday. We're having great snowy weather, a foot of snow on Christmas night and another foot this weekend. Big fat snow. Picnic anyone?
The death of our TV at the lake has led to a small entertainment upgrade there. We got a new and larger TV and a DVD player and hooked up the sound through the stereo. The player will play MP3s and show JPG images in a slideshow. And movies of course, for winter nights. This is the time of year we watch movies. Please recommend something some. My current car music mix includes new albums by the Blind Boys, Kim Richie, Dixie Chicks, Odetta, and Eva Cassidy.
The Heron is in its quiet season and we get to stay at the lake a lot, and live like regular people. We cross country ski and snow shoe; little slide shows from those adventures are on unitymaine.org this week and last. I seem to have passed through my winter solstice immune system slump without so much as a cold this year. There is much to be thankful for. We don't have to look at Trent Lott's hair anymore, Mary Landrieu showed that Republican money doesn't always win, and JazzFest has added first Thursday.
