We are skidding down to the nadir of the year, a week away from the solstice. The calendar is at the printer. I put all three years online at www.copperheron.com so folks could get to the recipes. Only 11 more years to go, then I will have all the calendar patterns done and we can start recycling. Here's a photo that didn't make the calendar. I try to limit myself to one rusted truck picture a year. But I love the way time and weather bring out unexpected layers of color with rusted iron at the bone.

The theater is finished its schedule for the year. Last Saturday Odetta, 70 years old, performed to a full house. A couple of people brought ancient LP's with afro-ed photos of her to be signed. Nowadays she wears velvet hats and dresses in purple. She and her pianist and driver Seth Farber stayed with us. It was kind of like Driving Miss Daisy in reverse. They ate dinner at 11 pm after the show and at midnight Melissa says Odetta was helping Camden with his homework.
