The new quarters has been a quality of life boost in the season of full houses. It was an amazing summer season. When I go looking for some photo in my files, I see the waves of summer visitors and events. Winter is coming we say, by way of balance. And the documentation has lagged. Often the wave is marked by some performance at the theater. I have to show my neice Melanie that Sophie B. Hawkins did hang out in our house for a couple of days. Fresh from the planet of California, she was pretty high maintenance. Yes, she plays several instruments and knows 4 chords on all of them. Still she was really fun to watch on stage. She does this thing of sweeping the floor with her hair. We made Susan Pierce practice that on the walk home.
In early September Jinx, Peg and Fabacher visited and did Quebec. They were here for Zubot & Dawson. At the Green Store in Belfast, we thought of a great business idea: selling these black fly net shirts in West Nile Virus land down south. We may still do that. Sometimes a great business idea can be ruined by actually doing it. Fabacher drove in from Manchester, Jinx and Peg from Portland, but they both told tales of nearly winging pedestrians who had the temerity to step into the street at a crosswalk. Two Maine things to get used to: no smoking in any restaurant and pedestrians have the right of way. We need to get Peg back up here for a couple of weeks to practice driving on curvy hilly roads in the dark. Fabacher spent some tense moments in the back seat. No visit by the girlfriends would be complete without painting or staining something. They put in an afternoon of work that put Melissa weeks ahead in getting the exterior quarters painted. The bottom of the building previously known as Garage has been closed in and insulated, and a small deck added on back. Just as we're finishing this project, the Furnace Guys come by for the annual inspection. You know, "Condemned" is such a strong word. They need to practice breaking bad news gently. Anyhow, we're getting a new furnace. It's turn has come. We're replaced every other thing.
