Hot days, cool nights, and no bugs. That's August. I refused to go anywhere today, just hung out at the lake. Shorts over a swimsuit. This morning I did a bike ride around the lake. Saw a set of piglets in a pen, stopped to take their picture. They scurried away into their house (sty?), then came back out as I stood still. When I moved to leave, they scurried back into the house and Mom came out to see bout stuff. Mom was about 500 lbs of black hairy pig. I moved on quickly. I saw Dad rooting around in the nearby field. He was the size of a rhino. A few miles later, a deer dashed across the road 20 feet in front of me. Lots of hayfields that look like this.
Friday evening we canoed down the lake to the Nees's for Larry's birthday dinner. Good food and a good party. We canoed back just as it was getting dark. Even without a moon, the lake is so reflective it isn't really dark, just kind of dreamy with water and air the same color and the stars coming out. Yesterday afternoon was the annual meeting of the lake association. I'm secretary of that outfit for a year. I agreed to that in hopes of getting a lot of great information about the lake out on the web. Kate Shorey is doing the website and I'm chasing down people for information.
The dogs and I had several swims today to cool off. They will be a year old next week. Scout, being the alpha dog and having more border collie traits, has usually been better at things. Until swimming. Wing got the lab genes and will jump off the dock and swim all day. Scout is good at striking a pose and appearing to supervise everything. The Heron has been jamming all summer. Lot of favorite repeat guests, Hillary and Bob from New York, Matt Miller and family this week, Karen and Barry Thompson from South Carolina. |
