i'm back

May 30 , 2017

That was quite a gap in the historical record. In one post I'm cutting holes in walls for doors and in the next we have a fully operational coffee shop. I have neglected so many obligations in the single-minded pursuit of getting 93 Main off the ground that I have a new metric for gauging damage due to my neglect: Did anybody die? If not, carry on.

The thousand daily decisions and processes involved in setting up a business include creating an LLC, hiring people, setting up payroll and worker's comp, creating menus, finding suppliers and food sources, getting licenses and permits from the state, going to the auction for tables and seating options. For weeks, I was spending hundreds of dollars online each day with my first cup of coffee. Carpentry, electrical, plumbing, oh my. Using local licensed kitchens as sources involves a lot of hunting and gathering.

We missed our usual JazzFest trip to New Orleans because you can't walk away from the new thing in its infancy. We opened in mid-April just in time to bond with the Unity College students before they went away for the summer. Those folks are serious about their caffeine and we are happy to serve it up to them in espressos and lattes and tea and chai and pourovers of the coffee of their choice. I look forward to their return in August. Lots of other folks had been missing a place to meet, eat, and hang out since Crosstrax closed last year. The Men's Table moved right in. It was gratifying to see the usual suspects enjoying a place of their own. And wasn't that the idea behind this post-Election decision?

Meanwhile next door, Bahoosh is working away on his remodel of the old town office into a one bedroom small house, a little gem with the old bank vault becoming the kitchen pantry and his signature front porch stars. Our 1830 era building are looking spiffy.

I've become a regular at the Burnham auction, buying tables and benches. My last prize was a 91 inch long pew. Now I need to find the perfect hutch for displaying some coffees and other stuff for sale. I don't go the the auction on Sunday, I go in on Friday and bid on what I want and call them up on Monday to see if If "won anything." From other places I bought two great deacon's benches and a set of 3 theater seats.
