Maggie Wilcox died Friday. She was 80 and one of Unity's 3 selectmen. Almost everyone reacted to her death the same way. After shock and surprise that someone they knew had died, they remarked on what a perfect exit it was. From the post office/town office where she had been "holding court," she drove her VW beetle north toward Bangor, but the car, leaving no skid marks, veered into the Field of Dreams without injuring anyone and came to rest against some trees. She died on the road and with her shoes on. Yes, that was a great way to go. Maggie was a botanist and the garden she created at the community center has been in a lot of my photos. She designed it to look good all year. The pink poppies that I like to shoot are there. I hope the garden stays there a long time. Other people will look after it.
