I've been on the board of our local non-profit community organization, Unity Barn Raisers for several years. The board has become smaller and less, uh, vibrant lately, so I took on the Nominating Committe task (NomCom: operating from a secure location deep inside Dix Mountain) and got suggestions from people and found some great candidates. This weekend we interviewed all 7 candidates. This will almost double the size of the board, but the fresh faces, new energy and ideas is worth it. The average age for board members will be reduced by several years. I thought of the task as an exercise in network theory, you know, nodes and hubs, networks interconnecting. I like it that I could change something that bothered me. I'm looking forward to our next board meeting to see how all this change feels.

Saturday, after interviews, we spent some time at MOFGA's Small Farm Field Day where we saw old friend Sandy with the newest McCabe, Finnegan, son of Jeffrey who is now a rep from Skowhegan in the state legislature. After some old-fashioned displays of scything, spinning, blacksmithing, we blasted into the future and went to see the new Star Trek movie. Time-space continuum lag.
