The Green River Festival: an evening of rain with a great set of folk singers from the Signature Sounds label, then a day of sun with Kathleen Edwards, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Michael Franti. The rain was more comfortable than the full sun. Had to wear some ice on my head. Martha and Jim were there to claim a good center stage spot each day.
The festival treated Trombone Shorty badly, having him lead a kid's Mardi Gras parade then putting him in the pathetic down-the-hill dance tent while Michael Franti ruled the upper world. Gonna have to send them some feedback about that.
Wandering around western Mass, we spent a night in Northampton and two nights in Shelburne Falls, checked out the flower bridge and the glacial potholes. Melanie and Marie were great co-adventurers. We noticed that the festival signs were made by the same person who makes them for JazzFest. Our B&B hosts knew her. Nan Parati moved to the area after Katrina and turned Elmer's General Store in Ashfield into an amazingly cool place with meals made from local food. New England gray wood grains with some subtle Carribean colors.
