At last my favorite day has arrived, the day after christmas. Breathe. Stay in your jammies. It started last Thursday night when we hosted the UBR party and seemed to go non-stop through yesterday.
I took these pictures before that party started to give you some flavor of our house in this season. The early winter and deep snow made everyone cheery. I skiied on the lake on Saturday. The Sullivan's party on Saturday night had favorite rituals: driving up and then down the mile long hilly driveway without getting stuck or hitting any sledders; Melissa's hot buttered rum; shuffling the cars to get out. Rain on Sunday melted away some of our snow. Christmas day here with Melissa's family and then friends over for dinner: Monica, Jim and Martha, Jennifer and Brett, with Melissa's mom Shirley saying grace. (Melissa: "Keep it down to 20 minutes, Ma").
Before sleep last night, I started on The Golden Compass, the first volume of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. I never read fantasy stuff, but I have to say it grabbed me right away. Good winter escape reading.
