Daffodils and tulips are blooming. This variant tulip is in the garden at the Heron. Ok, it's time to talk about the Heron. We didn't think things would be happening this fast so we only told people as occasions warranted or as people weaseled it out of us, eg Tess. It's the shock from the "regulars," the people who have stayed with us for years and have become friends, that's the hardest to deal with. We'll have to figure out how to be friends with them still without being the innkeepers.
This winter we decided to sell the
B&B and simplify our lives. We wanted to work less, and we wanted weekends back. We listed it with the Swan Agency, a lodging realty agency in Bar Harbor. We thought it would take months if not years to find a buyer. There's not much out there of worth in our price range. The first person who looked at it, a woman from Pennsylvania who teaches cooking, bought it.
So it's under contract and if all goes well we should go to closing in mid July. Her offer and the countering all happened while we were on the JazzFest trip. We were doing deals while crossing the causeway and getting the final agreement in the Boston airport on the way home. So we spent some of our vacation time dealing with the sale and talking about our future endeavors. Consequently we didn't get to visit with everyone we wanted to see.
Near term future plans include buying another building in the village, for use as an office. More details on that later.
While we were away, the Earth Day Recycled Derby took place at Unity College, and our sponsored entry, the Copper Expresso, won the thing and set a new course record! We had an old fiberglass canoe in our garden shed, student Steve Aegis got the wheels from an old sulky in a field by Land Rover Man's house. Another student Aaron was the chief engineer, adding a rudder and bicycle brakes connected to a single wheel on the rear, and some top decking to hold the fiberglass together in the event of a crash. Two other students, Morgan and her roommate, were also on the team. You are looking at Yankee ingenuity here. Looking forward to seeing the video of their run. Thanks to Donna for photos of the event.
The trophy for the event was constructed from this and that from our garage. All in all, a great day for recycling.
