One day it's snowing, the next day it's 70 degrees. It's a short spring here. Memorial Day is the last frost day. We've started putting gardens in. The black flies are intense. We wear nets over our heads to dig and plant. The hours of light, the new green all around are like a drug that makes you happy all the time. This bleeding heart plant is in the Heron garden. The tulips are across the street at the phone company. I take a gazillion pictures of everything. I'm reading George Soros on Globalization, a collection of Billy Collins poems and a book of essays predicting scientific advances in the next 50 years. I'm reclaiming my bicycle and my favorite routes around Unity. On June 9, I'll do a benefit thing that involves a bike ride to Belfast, then a return trip to Unity on the train with lunch.
![]() Scout and Wing, 9 months old, have settled into their invisible fence. We can leave them in the yard even when we are not there. However,we don't leave them out for too many hours at a time right now because the black flies are fierce and bite them around the eyes. Keep an eye on UnityMaine.org, especially the theater schedule. I found a great photo of Odetta who will be here December 7. Hey Connie, it looks like Suzzy Roche will be staying at our house when the Bitchin Babes play here this summer. The Neilds were great. It's not many performers who can charm an audience like that.
