Spring at last. The light is back and my brain is grateful. The ice went out on April 6. It always happens the same way. A wind blows the water over the ice and it sinks. The lapping sound and the sparkle is back. If there weren't white caps on it today, I'd be out there in the kayak.
Very busy weekend here. A woodsman's tournament (yes, I know it should be woodperson or maybe woodster), the inauguration of Unity College's new president, David Glenn-Lewin, and a variety of Earth Day activities, including a 5K race and the Recycled Derby. The Glenn-Lewin clan stayed at the B&B. We are often the first to know people who move to Unity for a job. David and Kathy stayed with us as candidates, then while looking for a house. Same with the new Dean, Pam PC, Zavodny, Meg & Steve. They know us and Don Newell, the real estate agent, first. Then they become part of the community and they are simply people we know. I think Melissa and I need to enter a vehicle in the Recycled Derby next year. The rules are that the parts can't cost more than $5 total, and that it must have steering and brakes. Tuesday night Arlene and I will show the Histerical Society their refurbished website. This winter we added a section of old postcards and the cemetery data. The cemetery data has been a royal pain in the butt. If the dead people would just decide what row they want to be in and stay there, it would help. The average age of the Histericals is deceased, so I think the web thing might fly right above them, but who knows. I've been wearing JazzFest shirts this week in anticipation. Over a turtleneck and under a sweatshirt, but still I'm wearing the alligators and red beans. This year I'll have a digital camera and laptop with me so there could be PU updates from the field. The laptop is mainly for collecting music. Hi, may I rip your CD collection? We'll be there April 24 thru May 6. After festin on first Friday, we'll go to Gulf Shores for a long weekend with the sistahs, then back to N.O. area for visiting and more festin on Thursday and Friday. On Apr 26 we'll see Sonny Landreth, Taj Majal, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Shemika Copeland. My highlight on May 2 will be the Blind Boys of Alabama. I'm excited about hearing Henry Butler on May 3, and seeing Patrice Fisher and Arpa. Classical harpist meets Latin guitarist and forms incredible band. If you have studied the 2002 schedule and have someone to recommend, please do so. If you are there and want to catch up with us, the cell phone is 207 649-4390. We have an inn sitter and a pet sitter and we are ready to go. See ya there. |
