Catching up on my documentation while waiting for a new scanner cable the lack of which prevents my showing the thousand pictures of The Commonground Family or the Commonground 3 day party however you think of it. Every year in September Unity College has a Day of Service during which the townspeople and the students work together on projects. My project is always trails related. This was the best year so far. We cleared a trail along Sandy Stream and built two bridges over low parts. I had a stack of big cedar logs, Don Newell had some thick hemlock planks and Arlene got the spikes. Our five students and several townies worked great together. We had our lunch break sitting on our first completed bridge.More team photos here. The day ended with a big meal in the park.
Cultural impasse department: The guys at work who constantly tune the Oracle database were discussing the data condition known as "scattered" the other day. I said yes, but what about scattered, smothered and covered? Completely blank looks.
There are no Waffle Houses in Maine. That would be, of course, because there are no roaches in Maine. Waffle Houses and roaches are one of those basic symbiotic relationships found in nature.
For my Yankee friends, here, from the Waffle House FAQ, is the terminology:
- Scattered: Waffle House traditional hashbrowns.
- Scattered & Smothered: Scattered on the grill and smothered
with onions.
- Scattered, Smothered & Covered: topped
with melted cheese
- Scattered. Smothered, Covered & Chunked: Chunks of "Hickory Smoked"
ham added
- Scattered, Smothered, Covered, Chunked & Topped: Topped with Chili
- Scattered, Smothered, Covered, Chunked, Topped & Diced: add
Fresh Diced tomatoes
Melissa hauled these pumpkins home from Peter's garden. They were in the back of her truck when I walked out to go to work one morning. At the lake there's a bushel of tomatoes and a bag of apples waiting to become their respective sauces.
